Understand Feed Distribution

Each day, once a day, at a predefined time (Begin Day), AfiFeed calculates the daily amount of supplements (Daily Allowance) allocated for each cow in the herd. The Daily Allowance is calculated according to either the Program Based Daily Allowance or Manual Feeding and is governed by the Feeding Rules:

Description automatically generated

  • Daily Allowance - The daily allowance contains the amount of each of the Feed Types.

  • Feeding Rules - The feeding rules define how much food each cow should receive each day and in a session.

Note: The Feeding Rules ensure that no cow is underfed or overfed. If the planned feed exceeds the maximum feed allowed or falls below the minimum limit, the Feeding Rules override the planned feed.

Description automatically generatedCow Meals - The day is divided into a pre-defined number of sessions. The cow's Daily Allowance is divided evenly among the number of sessions. The number of sessions and their schedules are defined during system setup (see Feed Type Parameters).

  • Graphical user interface

Description automatically generatedVisit - The cow eats her meal in a stall. Each time a cow enters the stall to eat is considered a visit. The cow may eat her entire meal during one visit or she can eat part and then return to eat the rest of the meal during her next visits.

Description automatically generatedLeftover - AfiFeed controls the amount of food delivered to the cow. If a cow did not finish her meal during the meal time period, the leftover food may be added to the cow’s next meal.

The amount of food that can be transferred to the next meal is limited by the predefined Feeding Rules
(see Feed Type Parameters). Carry-over feed from the last session of the previous day is added to the Daily Allowance (governed by Feeding Rules).

Note: Setting Feeding Rules - The feeding rules are set by a qualified installation technician when the system is installed and configured. Please contact your dealer if you require changes to your feeding rules.
