Understand Feed Planning

AfiFeed provides individual feeding, in which each cow receives her own feed portion or supplementary feed via one of the following methods:

  • Program Based Daily Allowance:

A set of attributes associates each animal in the herd to a predefined Feed Type Menu. AfiFeed calculates a daily feed allowance for each cow according to the cow’s stage in the life cycle (see Access Feed Program).

As the cow grows or her characteristics change, AfiFeed calculates a new daily feed allowance for that cow.

Once a Feed Program is built, each cow is fed according to this program throughout her life cycle in the herd, unless she is excluded from the Program to be fed Manually.

  • Manual Feed Program :

The Manual Feed feature is used to exclude cows from the Program for a set period, during which they are manually assigned their own feed program. The food allocation automatically reverts to the Feed Program once the set time period finishes, or it is changed manually.

Manual Feed menus can be assigned to individual cows, or at a group level (see Remove Animals from Normal Feed Program).

  • Import:

Import feature is like the Manual Feed feature, but with a fixed menu whose allocations are imported from an external file. Please contact Afimilk support for information about using this feature.
