Collect Samples with AfiLab
The AfiLab assembly makes it possible to easily mount a sampler bottle to retrieve a milk sample from each cow during milking.
Note: During normal milking, when not sampling, a sampler replacement tube fills the gap reserved for the fat sampler.
Before assembling the sampler bottle, make sure you have the following components from Afimilk:

Description |

Sampler Replacement tube |
Connects the AfiLab outlet to the Elbow joint tube and milk line. |
|
Sampler Bottle 500cc |
Catches the sample of milk for each cow during milking. |

Body Fat Sampler Assembly |
Includes the following components:
|
To mount the sampler bottle:
-
Remove the sampler replacement tube.
-
Connect the fat sampler assembly between the connector to the AfiLab unit outlet and the elbow pipe to the milk line.
-
Make sure the sampler bottle is completely empty, and then attach the sampler bottle to the sampler bottle holder.
Note: The sampler bottle must be at exactly 90 degrees to the sampler, otherwise sampling does not work properly.
To collect the milk sample:
-
After the cow has finished milking, and the vacuum to the cluster is shut off, remove the sample bottle from its holder.
-
Hold the sample bottle a small distance directly above the intermediary container.
A container, such as a measuring cup, is needed for use as an intermediary container, between the milk sample bottle, and the test tube (or other container of the government body, or dairy association that is testing the herd).
-
Invert the bottle so that it is upside down, and that the sample “gurgles” into the intermediary container.
Note: The “gurgle” (broken irregular flow) effect helps mix the sample.
Caution: Do not swirl the intermediary container in a circular motion in order to mix the sample. A circular motion has a separator-type effect and will result in a sample that is not representative.
-
From the plastic container, pour the required quantity of milk into a test tube (or other container of the government body, or dairy association, which is testing the herd).
-
After filling the test tube, empty the measuring cup of any remaining sample milk. Do not dump milk remnants on the parlor floor. Dump milk remnants on the cow platform.
