Collect Milk Samples

Milk sampling is performed on milk test day. To ensure integrity of the sampling, tests should be conducted and the fat sampler must be used according to specifications.

One fat sampler assembly is attached at each milking point, to collect a separate, proportional sample from each cow milked at that point.

To mount the fat sampler assembly

At the milk meter body outlet port, remove the sampler replacement tube and insert the sampler tube instead.

Note: The sample bottle must be vertical to the floor when mounted in place!

Note: Make sure bottle holder and the empty bottle is mounted and tightened to the sampler tube before each load of cows is milked.

To collect the milk sample

  1. After removal of the cluster and the vacuum is off, remove the bottle by pulling it down and towards you.

  2. Stir the milk in the bottle.

  3. Pour the required quantity of milk into a sampling test tube.

  4. Empty any remaining milk from the bottle.

  5. Attach the empty bottle back to the holder .

To Clean the fat sampler

Note: The fat sampler assembly must be cleaned after each milk test session.

Select one of the following methods for cleaning the fat sampler assembly:

  • Remove the fat sampler assembly from the line and wash it carefully by hand.

Caution: Make sure to replace it with the sampler replacement tube.

  • Wash the fat sampler assembly with the rest of the milking system.

In this situation, the fat sampler bottle should be rotated up - this ensures it is properly washed and drained during the wash cycle.
