Direct Path to Profitability

Feed Efficiency Service

Accurately identify individual cow feed efficiency

AfiCollar Feed Efficiency Service takes cow monitoring to the next level by giving dairies accurate feed consumption data, combining it with milk production data and delivering insights never before available.

By accurately measuring each individual cow’s dry matter intake and calculating the feed efficiency and Income over Feed (IoF) of each cow, dairies can identify their most profitable cows and then make more informed culling and breeding decisions.

Why Choose AfiCollar Feed Efficiency Service

Informed Culling Decisions

Cull low producing, high-cost cows.

Breed for Feed Efficiency

Develop a more genetically efficiency herd.

Support Sustainability

Select animals that emit less methane, produce with less feed.

Five years, 35,000 data points and global research partnerships made our DMI breakthrough possible – with 93.9% accuracy.

Feed Efficiency Service in Action

01

Insight on Dry Matter Intake

The Feed Efficiency Service is a module within the AfiFarm herd management software. It combines data on the dry matter intake of each individual cow (collected from the AfiCollar sensor) with milk production data (collected from the MPCs/meters) to deliver reports on the feed efficiency and income over feed (IoF) of each cow.

Afimilk was the first to isolate the consumption measurement of eating with an AI-supported algorithm to identify the dry matter intake of each individual cow regardless of ration type.

02

Profit and Loss Statement on Every Cow

AfiFarm analyzes data to define how much each cow costs in feed, the value of her milk production, and then deliver a profit and loss statement on each animal. These insights help:

  • Identify which cows are more economical (IOF instead of Yield)
  • Analyze the economic impact of management decisions made
  • Analyze populations in the herd and understand their economic value (young vs. advanced lactations, early/peak/late lactation periods, dry/transition/DNB/pregnant etc.)
03

The Power of Individual Cow Feed Efficiency

Individual feed efficiency data can be leveraged in multiple ways. Producers can immediately make more informed culling decisions:

  • Cull low producing, high-cost cows to lower costs
  • Find optimal exit times based on individual profitability
  • Identify profitability opportunities in mid-producing cows

Over time, producers are also empowered to:

  • Breed for feed efficiency by selecting the most efficiency cows to produce replacement heifers, which will support the development of a more genetically-efficiency herd
  • Improve sustainability by selecting animals that emit less methane as well as those that produce more milk with less feed

REAL STORIES

Simply put, the selection of cows culled on the farm today is based on an ascending rank of feed efficiency, as reported by Afimilk.

Eren Erez, RAN Farm, 1,100 Cows, IL

When you have their dry matter intake, you know for sure if that cow is above or below your threshold. It’s going to allow you have every hole occupied by the most efficient animal.

Will Leone, Carlyle Dairy, 3,450 Cows, USA

It will almost immediately affect how you make breeding decisions and lead to producing a more efficient animal genetically.
